Webber Middle School Counselors support students in their academic, personal/social, and future planning needs as guided by the American School Counselor Association's (ASCA) National Model. Counselors remain with their class of students for all three years of middle school, however students are welcome to see any counselor they wish. The 8th grade counselor will loop to work with 6th grade for the next school year.

How to see your counselor
It's really easy! Stop by the counseling office anytime during the day (passing period, lunch, before/after school), and fill out a slip at Mrs. Ellis' desk. Please be sure to tell us if it's an emergency. Your counselor will send a pass to you as soon as he/she is available to meet with you. You can also find us in the cafeteria at lunch and in the hallways during passing period. You can also email your counselor to set up an appointment.

About us
Maria Ellis, Registrar: I’m Mrs. Ellis, the Registrar in the counseling office at Webber Middle School. My husband and I are originally from Southern California. We have lived in Fort Collins since 1999. I help support the counseling staff, enroll new students and maintain their records, assist in building the master schedule, and lots, lots more. I enjoy working with all the students and staff at Webber, especially since all three of my own kids were students here at the WEB! My favorite hobbies are tennis, skiing, hiking, reading and spending time with my family and friends
Joy Wintersteen 6th Grade Counselor: I’m coming to Webber from Alaska, where I was a school counselor for two years in Metlakatla, a Tsimshian Indian reservation in the Southeast, and three years at a boarding school in Galena, a small town on the Yukon river off the road system. I’m not new to Colorado though; I have a master’s degree in School Counseling from UNC in Greeley and went on to be a counselor at Lincoln Middle School.
I have a wide range of experiences in the school counseling field, from elementary to high school. I’ve worked on counseling teams, and I’ve also been the lone counselor/mental health person in the building. I love changing things up! Last fall my family and I were preparing for the harsh Alaskan winter, building up our wood pile and stocking the freezer with salmon and moose meat. Now we are reacquainting with Colorado life. (milk is only $2.70 a gallon! And there are actual roads leading out of town!) I’m pleased to have landed back at PSD, here at Webber. I’m married and have a 13 and 15-year-old, at Lincoln Middle School and Poudre High School. Please stop by the counseling office the next time you’re in Webber –I’d love to meet you!

April Stutters, 7th grade Counselor: I love working at Webber. I has a Masters degree in social work, and I am a clinical child and adolescent therapist specializing in grief, trauma, and stress reduction. Prior to this position I served on the PSD Mental Health Team in a variety of schools throughout the district, providing individual and group counseling to students. I enjoy traveling, playing the ukulele, SUPing, story telling, writing poetry, reading, fishing, live theater, art, and more. I also love a really good belly laugh, and middle school kids provide me with that every day.
Ana Lizardo, 8th grade Counselor:
Hi everyone! This is my third year at Webber and I am so excited to continue working in such a wonderful community. I will be the 8th grade counselor this year and I will provide anything from individual counseling, to schedule changes, to conflict management, to greeting students with a smile 😊. I moved to Fort Collins 8 years ago to pursue my Bachelor’s degree at CSU in Human Development & Family Studies with minors in Criminal Justice and Gerontology. I also earned my Master’s degree in Education with a focus on School Counseling. I love Fort Collins and my husband and I hope to raise our two boys here. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, dancing, listening to music, writing and laughing. Please feel free to reach out to me and let me know how I can help :)

Tom Hicks, Counseling Core Grant Counselor: Although new to Webber as a School Counselor, I have been part of the Webber community for years. First, in 2004 as an Intern, finishing my Master’s Degree in Education, and soon after as a parent in 2008 when my oldest daughter enrolled as a Middle School student. My other 2 daughters soon followed their older sister into Webber and I continued my involvement as a Webber parent. After completing my Master’s degree in Education, with an emphasis in School Counseling, I was employed at Lincoln Junior High, soon after becoming Lincoln Middle School. I waited patiently as my daughters went through middle school keeping an eye open for a counseling position here at Webber. After 10 years as a School Counselor at Lincoln, I was finally able to land HERE! Proud to be a PANTHER! School Counseling is actually my second career, prior to becoming a School Counselor; I was employed with the Larimer County Department of Human Services as a Program Manager, in which I was the Executive Director of a 20 bed adolescent Residential Treatment Facility. Overall, I have 25 years’ experience working with adolescents in many various settings supporting, helping encouraging them to be the best they can be.
